Description
This 25 Years Old was a 2002 Special Release, distilled in 1977 and matured in ex-Bourbon, an outturn of 9,000 bottles. Among the older Lagavulins of its day. Lagavulin has stood at Lagavulin Bay since 1816, on Islay's Kildalton shore.
The spirit is heavily peated and distilled at a deliberate, slow pace. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks at full strength, a quarter century softens the smoke into a waxy maturity.
57.2%, the cask's own strength. Phenols and guaiacol carry a softened smoke, the ex-Bourbon giving vanilla over a waxy depth. The recorded notes run to a fragrant lift and a nutty note. A rare older Special Release.
