Description
This undiluted 12 Years Old was the 2014 Special Release, an outturn of 31,428 bottles in American oak. The distillery dates from 1816, set on the Kildalton coast of southern Islay.
The heavily peated make comes off the stills slowly, gaining body. Twelve years in American oak, bottled at full strength, give a vivid, direct smoke.
Bottled at full strength, 54.4%. The smoke owes to guaiacol and phenols, the oak adding vanilla. Expect citrus, a medicinal edge, a dry sandy note, smoke and a husky edge. A cask strength Special Release.
