Description
The cask strength 12 Years Old appeared as the 2012 Special Release, an outturn of 31,656 bottles matured in American oak. Founded in 1816, the distillery sits on Islay's southern shore at Lagavulin Bay.
Slow distillation through the pear-shaped stills gives a deep, smoky spirit. Twelve years in American oak, bottled at full strength, give a direct, vivid smoke.
56.1%, the cask's own strength. The smoke rises from guaiacol and phenols, vanilla coming from the American oak. The palate shows smoke, citrus, fresh fruit, a green note, leather and a medicinal edge. A cask strength Special Release.
