Description
The Manager's Dram was a Diageo series bottled for company staff, rarely seen on the open market, and this 11 year old Lagavulin from 2013 is one such release. Lagavulin, on the Kildalton shore of southern Islay, was founded in 1816 and is among the most prized of Islay malts.
Onion-shaped stills and a slow run give Lagavulin its weight. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks and bottled at full strength, eleven years keep it lively and direct.
Bottled at full strength, 57.1%. The smoke comes from guaiacol and phenols, the ex-Bourbon giving vanilla, the full strength lifting the fruit. Tasting notes take in citrus, fresh fruit and a hay-like note. A scarce staff bottling.
