Description
The 10 Years Old is a travel retail core Lagavulin, sitting between the bright 8 and the deeper 16 in the range. Lagavulin, at its namesake bay on Islay's south coast, was founded in 1816 and has been a Diageo flagship since its 16 joined the Classic Malts in 1988.
The distillery's heavily peated spirit comes off pear-shaped stills run slowly for depth. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks, ten years let the smoke settle while keeping the spirit fresh.
Bottled at 43%. Guaiacol and phenols carry the coastal smoke, the ex-Bourbon giving vanilla and citrus. Tasting notes take in smoke, citrus, a medicinal edge, fresh fruit, new wood and honey. A duty-free middle point in the core range.
