Description
Lagar da Condesa is a Rías Baixas estate in Galicia, on the granite subsoils and sandy topsoils of Spain's cool, rain washed Atlantic coast. This second label from single vineyard Albariño reflects that maritime setting, where sea breezes and high rainfall keep the fruit fresh and the acidity firm. The wine is fermented dry and then aged on its fine lees, a stage in which spent yeast cells slowly break down and release mannoproteins into the wine, rounding the mid palate and adding a subtle savoury weight without masking the grape. The result is pale lemon in colour, with an aromatic mix of green apple, white peach and citrus over white flowers. The palate is taut and saline, carried by vibrant Atlantic acidity and a stony, sea salt edge that runs into a clean, persistent finish. It stays youthful and precise rather than heavy. Serve it well chilled at around 9 to 11 degrees in a standard white wine glass.
