Description
A Lowland malt distillery built into the Girvan grain complex in Ayrshire in 1966, Ladyburn ran only nine years before being dismantled by 1976. Drawn from ex-Bourbon cask 3201, this 1973 was bottled at twenty-seven years old in 2000 for Europe.
Rather than a distillery proper, Ladyburn was two pairs of pot stills within Girvan, its spirit feeding Grant's blends and relieving Glenfiddich. Twenty-seven years in refill ex-Bourbon let the malt thicken into wax and vanilla, the oak never dominant.
At 50.4%, its natural strength with no dilution. From the ex-Bourbon come vanilla, coconut and a maltol toffee note, over the oily Ladyburn character. A rare cask from a ghost distillery gone in under a decade.
