Description
Among Scotland's rarest lost distilleries, Ladyburn was a Lowland malt built into the Girvan grain complex in 1966 and torn down by 1976. Filled in 1973 and bottled twenty-seven years on in 2000, cask 3177 was released for Europe.
Not a distillery in its own right, Ladyburn was two pairs of pot stills at Girvan, its make destined for Grant's blends. Over twenty-seven years the ex-Bourbon cask coaxed wax and soft fruit from a spirit that started out lean and oily.
Undiluted at its natural 50.4%. Vanilla, coconut and toffee come from the ex-Bourbon's vanillin, oak lactones and maltol, over an oily base. A rare cask from one of Scotch whisky's true ghost distilleries.
