Description
This 42 Years Old was distilled in 1973 and bottled in 2015, a rare old Ladyburn, an outturn of 1,150 bottles. Ladyburn was a Lowland malt distillery built into Grant's sprawling Girvan distillery in Ayrshire in 1966 and dismantled by 1976, operational for just nine years.
Never a standalone distillery, Ladyburn was four pot stills in a corner of the Girvan site, its malt made for Grant's blends and to free up Glenfiddich stock. Forty-two years in refill ex-Bourbon built a thick, waxy depth, the old oak well forward over honeyed fruit.
Bottled at 40%. Vanillin from the ex-Bourbon reads as vanilla, oak lactones as coconut, maltol as toffee over an oily, waxy aged depth. A rare old expression of a nine-year ghost distillery.
