Celler Frisach make this natural, organic and vegan rosat in the Terra Alta from a trio of Garnachas, red, grey and white. Farmed by the Ferré brothers near Corbera d’Ebre, it shows red berries, cherry and a fresh, savoury Mediterranean character.
Description
Celler Frisach is run by brothers Joan and Francesc Ferré in the Terra Alta in Catalonia, near Corbera d'Ebre, on land their family long farmed for almonds and vines. After their cooperative buyer dropped them, they began making their own wine, and now work organically with native grapes. This rosat blends three forms of Garnacha, the red tinta, the grey gris and the white blanca, a local field-blend approach. Terra Alta is a high, dry inland region with limestone-rich panal soils and a warm climate cooled by the Cierzo and Garbí winds, which preserves acidity and concentrates flavour. The wine is made naturally with native yeasts and is unfiltered, organic and vegan, with minimal cellar intervention. Co-fermenting red and white Garnacha with light skin contact gives more colour and texture than a pale pressed rosé. The colour is a bright pink. The nose shows red berries, cherry and red currant with citrus peel and dried herbs. The palate is dry and fruity, with a savoury, faintly grippy finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees. It suits grilled pork, poultry and Mediterranean vegetables.
