Description
Celler Frisach produce L'Abrunet Blanc in the D.O. Terra Alta, a varietal from Garnacha Blanca, the grape that defines this inland Catalan region. Terra Alta is a high plateau of limestone soils under a Mediterranean climate, swept by the dry Cierzo wind, which keeps the vineyards healthy and helps hold freshness in a grape that can otherwise turn broad and low in acid. The wine is farmed and made naturally, organic and vegan, and aged on its lees, where autolysis adds a fuller texture and body while keeping the fruit clean. The result is a medium bodied white with the roundness of Garnacha Blanca balanced by a fresh line of acidity. The colour is a pale yellow with golden highlights, and the nose is notably intense, with apple and ripe pineapple alongside lemon and a floral, white flower lift. The palate follows with melon and stone fruit, textured from the lees yet fresh through the finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees. It suits white fish, roast chicken and salads, and has enough presence for an aperitif with olives and almonds.
