Labourdonnais Premium Rum

Labourdonnais works from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice on the northern plains of Mauritius, distilling in the agricole manner even though, outside the French islands, the word agricole is off-limits and the spirit is described as pure cane juice. This bottling is its straightforward cane-juice expression on a column still.

The profile is true to its raw material, vegetal and sappy on the nose with a grassy, lightly fruity palate and a green, spice-touched finish, the freshness and snap that define cane-juice rum rather than the sweetness of molasses styles. At 40% it is gentle in strength but dry and herbaceous in character. This is an honest agricole-style white from the Indian Ocean, a fair introduction to fresh-cane rum and a natural fit for a Ti Punch or a crisp, cane-forward cocktail.
