Labourdonnais Classic Craft Rum

Labourdonnais distils on Mauritius, making pure cane juice rum in the agricole spirit outside the protected French island terms. This Classic Craft Rum is its unaged white, pressed from fresh sugar cane juice on a column still and bottled at a soft 40%, a gentle entry point into the island's cane juice style.

The nose is fresh and herbal with citrus and a vegetal lift, and the palate brings lemon peel, pepper and pineapple over a light touch of wood. The finish stays oily, herbal and vegetal. At 40% it is more subtle than the distillery's stronger 50% version, easier going but also lighter in body and impact. An honest, approachable cane juice white best understood as a relaxed sipper or a mixer rather than a bold, high proof statement.
