Description
Labourdonnais is a Mauritian estate, and its AMELIA Ruby Port Cask is a cane-juice rum given a ruby port finish, with the estate's own vanilla and added sugar both in play. This is a sweetened bottling and reads as one; the honest framing is richness and easy drinking rather than purity or dryness.
The port cask leaves a strong mark: the nose is sweet and vanilla-led with sugarcane and clear port-wine fruit, the palate stays sweet and soft with vanilla and fresh cane, and the finish carries vanilla, red-fruit port character and more sweetness. The rum pours notably dark, and the estate's vanilla and dosage push it toward the dessert end of the spectrum. At 40% it drinks smooth and approachable, a pleasant after-dinner pour or a sweet base for cocktails, best taken for the indulgent, port-soaked profile it sets out to deliver.
