Description
La Venenosa Raicilla Puntas is a rare bottling drawn from the puntas, the upper portion of the agave hearts and the first high strength cut taken off the still. Made by Gerardo Pena, cousin of Don Ruben Pena, in Jacales, Jalisco, from Maximiliana agave, it is part of Esteban Morales's sierra range and sits well above the others in proof.
The spirit ferments in a 200 litre oak barrel and is then double distilled in a stainless steel still. Despite an alcohol strength of around 61.4%, which varies by bottling, it stays elegant, subtle and unusually complex. The nose offers fruit, with apple, grape and berries, lifted by herbal notes, while the palate is sweet and fruity with a prominent apple and citrus character. A concentrated, high proof expression of mountain Maximiliana for those who want raicilla at full intensity.
