Description
La Val Albariño is a single variety white from Bodega La Val in D.O. Rías Baixas, in Galicia's Atlantic north west. Rías Baixas is defined by its cool, wet maritime climate and granite influenced soils, which together give Albariño its hallmark high acidity, citrus and stone fruit character and a distinct saline lift. After fermentation this wine spends five months on its fine lees, the spent yeast cells slowly releasing mannoproteins that broaden the texture and add a subtle savoury depth while the fruit stays fresh and primary. The colour is pale lemon with green tints. The nose is bright and fruity, with green apple, lemon and white peach over a light floral note. The palate is dry and crisp, the fruit carried by lively acidity and a clean, salty finish, the lees ageing giving just enough weight to fill out the mid palate. This is Albariño in its classic, food friendly Atlantic style. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It is the natural partner for shellfish and grilled white fish.
