Description
La Trucha is an Albarino from the Rias Baixas region of Galicia, made by Finca Garabelos at Crecente in the Condado de Tea subzone. Galicia's Atlantic coast is cool, green and wet, and Albarino is well suited to it, with a thick skin that resists the damp and a natural acidity that thrives in the maritime climate. The Condado de Tea sits slightly inland along the Mino river, a touch warmer and drier than the coast, which lends the fruit a little more weight. After a cool fermentation the wine spends six months on its lees in stainless steel. As the spent yeast cells slowly break down they release mannoproteins and other compounds that add body and a subtle savoury depth, rounding the wine without any oak. The colour is pale lemon with green glints. The nose is white peach, ripe pear and green apple, with white flowers and a saline note. The palate is fresh and precise, with a stony, slightly salty character and a long citrus finish. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees.
