A 16 year cask strength Foursquare from 2006 by La Maison du Whisky, rich with the house coconut, vanilla, caramel and dried fruit over firm oak and baking spice, a dry, serious Barbados sipper at 60.3%.
Description
La Maison du Whisky released this Foursquare from the 2006 vintage as part of its Flag series, a 16 year Barbados rum bottled at cask strength. Foursquare, Richard Seale's St Philip estate, blends double-retort pot still rum with twin-column Coffey distillate and works strictly without additives, so this is authentic, island-aged Bajan rum carrying only what the oak gave it.
Matured in ex-bourbon casks, it shows the estate's hallmark, coconut, vanilla, caramel and chocolate on the nose, then caramel, coconut and dark chocolate on the palate with firm baking spice, finishing on coconut, dried fruit and caramel. The 2006 vintage is a perennial favourite, and this bottling delivers its depth and integration at full proof, though it leans notably dry and woody. A powerful, classic Barbados sipper that can also carry a rich cocktail, made for drinkers who already favour the estate's prestige cask-strength style.
