A 13 year old Clarendon under the EMB mark from La Maison Du Whisky’s Flag Series, a single cask at a fierce 66.2% with citrusy tropical fruit, esters, glue and menthol over dry, spicy wood, wild but balanced.
Description
La Maison Du Whisky's Flag Series gives this Clarendon its setting, an EMB mark from the 2010 vintage drawn as a single cask. EMB is one of the distillery's more characterful pot-still marks, and at a fierce 66.2% this is its younger, wilder face.
Matured in ex-bourbon wood, it is fruity and funky with real power. Glue, medicinal notes, citrus and vanilla open the nose, then the palate brings medicinal, citrus, ester and tropical fruit, the classic Clarendon herbs and glue showing clearly. The finish stays medicinal, spicy and hot, as the strength demands. Certified unsweetened, it is raw and energetic rather than polished, yet many find it balanced for the proof. This is a young, high-strength Clarendon for drinkers comfortable above 60%, who enjoy the distillery's fruity, medicinal character with the volume turned up and a little water on hand.
