La Luna Cupreata Black Label is an artisanal ensamble mezcal from Etúcuaro, Michoacán, made using Agave cupreata and Agave tequilana (Azul). Bottled at around 46 % ABV, it combines Cupreata’s floral citrus character with the softness and body of Tequilana, resulting in a bright, lightly smoky mezcal designed for cocktail use without losing regional identity.

Description
La Luna Mezcal Cupreata Black Label is produced in Etúcuaro, Michoacán, a high-altitude mezcal region located at approximately 1,790 metres above sea level. The area is best known for Agave cupreata, a native Michoacán species valued for its floral aromatics, citrus brightness and mineral edge. In this expression, Cupreata is blended with Agave tequilana (Azul), creating a true ensamble that balances structure, aromatics and approachability.
Agave piñas are fire-roasted in a traditional stone-lined underground horno using estate-sourced white oak, then hand milled before undergoing natural open-air fermentation in wooden vats. The spirit is double distilled in traditional Tarascan stills constructed from copper with pinewood elements, preserving clarity while retaining texture. As with many artisanal mezcals, final bottling strength can vary slightly from batch to batch.
As La Luna expanded its reach beyond local distribution, this expression evolved into the Black Label format, using an ensamble of Cupreata and Tequilana to achieve consistency and versatility. Cupreata provides lift and aromatic tension, while Tequilana contributes roundness and sweetness, making this mezcal lighter on smoke and particularly well suited to cocktails, while still clearly rooted in Michoacán tradition. Black Label represents La Luna’s most accessible expression without sacrificing production integrity.
