La Gutina makes this natural Garnacha in L’Empordà, Catalonia, from organically farmed vines. Carbonic maceration and no oak give a juicy, low-intervention young red bursting with raspberry, cherry and a peppery, floral lift at a low 12.9 per cent.
Description
La Gutina Glu Glu is a natural, single-variety Garnacha from the La Gutina winery in L'Empordà, in the north-east corner of Catalonia near the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees foothills. The vineyards are farmed organically with minimal intervention, and the grapes are hand harvested into thirteen-kilo boxes to keep the bunches intact. At the winery the whole clusters undergo carbonic maceration, fermenting from the inside out within the uncrushed berries; this technique extracts bright colour and aroma with very little tannin, giving a juicy, fruit-forward style with the soft, floral character typical of the method. Made as a natural wine, it sees no oak and minimal additions, keeping the fruit pure and the alcohol low at 12.9 per cent. The colour is a bright, translucent ruby. The nose is lifted and perfumed, with fresh raspberry, cherry and redcurrant over a floral, peppery note. The palate is light bodied, supple and thirst quenching, with soft tannins, fresh acidity and an easy, savoury finish. This is a wine to drink young and lightly chilled. Serve at 12 to 14 degrees. It suits charcuterie, light meats and grilled vegetables.
