Eulogio Pomares of Fento Wines makes this single plot rosado in Portugal’s Dão from the native Alfrocheiro, Baga and Tinta Roriz. Granite grown and dry, it shows fresh red berries, citrus and a herbal, mineral edge.
Description
La Galaxia Rosado is made by Eulogio Pomares under his Fento Wines label, built on the principle of vine, soil, climate and grower working together across single plots. This rosé comes from the DOC Dão in the Beiras region of central Portugal, from the native Alfrocheiro, Baga and Tinta Roriz varieties. The Dão is a high, granite based plateau sheltered by mountains, where altitude and a wide diurnal range give cool nights that preserve acidity and aromatic freshness, while the granite soils lend a mineral, linear character. The grapes are pressed with brief skin contact and fermented cool to keep the colour pale and the fruit fresh, with no oak. The colour is a bright pale pink. The nose shows fresh red berries, cherry and red currant, with citrus peel, white flowers and a herbal lift. The palate is dry and crisp, light bodied, with firm acidity and a clean, mineral finish that reflects the granite soils. Serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees. It makes a fine aperitif and suits grilled fish, salads and lighter poultry.
