La Foradada is Celler Frisach’s benchmark Terra Alta orange wine from Garnacha Blanca, fermented and macerated at length on the skins. The extended maceration gives a deeply textured, savoury style with dried apricot, orange peel and a saline, herbal grip.
Description
Celler Frisach work in Corbera de l'Ebre in the Terra Alta of southern Catalonia, a high inland zone of limestone and clay soils swept by the cold Cierzo and warm Garbí winds. La Foradada is their well known orange wine from Garnacha Blanca, the white Grenache that is the signature grape of the Terra Alta and takes well to skin contact. The grapes are fermented and macerated at length on their skins, which extracts tannin, phenolics and amber colour from the skins and builds the firm structure and savoury depth that define this style. The wine is raised in stainless steel, so the texture comes from the extended skin maceration rather than from oak. The poor, well drained soils and the elevation, with hot days and cool nights, give ripe but balanced fruit with a saline minerality that runs through the wine. Natural, organic and vegan. The colour is a deep amber. The nose shows dried apricot, orange peel and dried herbs with a nutty, saline edge, and the palate is dry, firmly textured and gently tannic with a long savoury finish. Serve at 12 to 14 degrees in a wide glass. Good with roast pork and hard cheeses.
