Description
La Fita Vinya de la Creu is a natural, organic white from La Fita in D.O. Penedes, blending Macabeo, the fresh, orchard-fruited grape known in Rioja as Viura, with Malvasia, which brings floral aromatics and a little more body. It is aged for six months on its lees in damajuanas, the glass demijohns traditional in the region. This is central to the style: the glass is inert and low in oxygen, so the wine ages slowly and stays fresh, while the extended contact with the lees adds a soft, creamy texture and a fuller mid-palate through the gradual release of mannoproteins, with no oak flavour involved. Made organically and with minimal intervention, the wine shows its blend and its site clearly. The colour is pale, and the nose is markedly floral, leading with white flowers over green apple, white peach and a herbal, chamomile note that comes from the Malvasia. The palate is dry and fresh, with lees-derived texture filling it out and a clean, gently savoury finish. This is an aromatic, characterful natural white for the table. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees. It suits white fish, shellfish, salads and lighter poultry.
