A Martinique blanc from La Favorite, fresh cane juice off the creole column, citrus and lime peel over fresh sugarcane with a green, vegetal backbone and an earthy, rounded finish, unsweetened and crisp at 48 percent.
Description
La Favorite is one of the last family-run distilleries in Martinique, and this Tje Kann is a fresh AOC blanc made entirely from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice distilled on a creole column. The still is run low on purpose to keep the green cane congeners intact, which is exactly why agricole blanc tastes the way it does.
Rested rather than oaked, the rum is all about cane freshness: citrus, lime peel and fresh sugarcane on the nose, a vegetal, green palate carrying lime and more cane, and a finish that turns earthy and round while staying dry. Bottled unsweetened at 48 percent, it leans slightly grassy and bagasse-forward in the raw, unmistakably young and lively. This is the canonical Ti Punch base, lime and a dash of cane syrup bringing the citrus and green notes into focus.
