A near-seven-year Martinique vieux from La Favorite, a 2015 cane-juice rum aged in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at 46%, fresh and woody with raisin and grapes up front, then grass, dried fruit and a drier, cinnamon-spiced, tannic finish.
Description
La Favorite is a family distillery in Fort-de-France known for green, herbal agricole, and this Selection de Fut is a barrel selection from the 2015 vintage. Distilled on a creole column from fresh sugar-cane juice and aged close to seven years in ex-bourbon oak, it is bottled unsweetened at 46%.
The profile balances cane freshness against oak grip. The nose leans fruity, raisin and grapes with an alcoholic lift; the palate brings grass, dried fruit, spice and sugarcane; the finish turns drier and a little tannic with young wood, cinnamon and spice. The 46% bottling keeps it easy to sip while letting the wood show, and tasters call it a fresh, approachable vieux, well typed if a touch young, with a finish some wish ran longer. It is a solid step up in character for drinkers who like drier, citrusy agricole with some oak grip but are not chasing cask-strength intensity.
