La Favorite La Digue Récolte 2019

La Favorite is a small family run distillery near Fort de France on Martinique, and this La Digue is a single harvest white from its creole column still, distilled low from fresh pressed cane juice to hold onto the grassy, vegetal character of the spirit. Bottled unsweetened at 52% from the 2019 record, it shows the freshness and snap that define a proper agricole blanc.

The nose is fresh and floral over clean sugarcane and citrus, while the palate stays silky with lime, earthy cane and a touch of minerality, the finish drifting vegetal with a faint medicinal note. The texture is notably oily and smooth for a white at this strength, with enough going on to hold attention. It rewards slow sipping neat for those who like a true agricole nose, and makes a vivid Ti Punch where the cane purity and lime do the work.
