A cask-strength Martinique agricole from La Favorite, the 2021 Exploration No. 5 at 51.5%, young and oak-driven with fruity, honeycomb aromatics over a spicy palate of young wood, allspice and black pepper, dry with a minty cane finish.
Description
La Favorite is a family-run Martinique distillery, and this Exploration No. 5 is part of its experimental range. The spirit is rhum agricole from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice on a creole column still, aged a short time in ex-bourbon oak and bottled unsweetened at cask strength.
At around a year and a half it is young and wood-forward, with the oak speaking loudly for its age. The nose is fruity and sweet with a honeycomb note, while the palate leans into young wood, allspice and a clear black-pepper bite. The finish runs woody and minty with the sugar-cane core showing through. Tropical maturation accelerates the oak, so even this brief ageing brings real spice and structure at 51.5%. A punchy, spice-led young agricole for drinkers who enjoy bold wood and pepper over a fresh cane base.
