A young Martinique agricole ambre from La Favorite at 45%, fresh and grassy with sugarcane, peppery spice, florals and lemon peel, picking up vanilla and oak from a short rest in barrel.
Description
La Favorite is a small family distillery near Fort-de-France, one of the last in Martinique still entirely family run, and this Coeur d'Ambre is a lightly aged cane juice rum. Distilled from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice and bottled at 45%, it sits in the ambre tier with around eighteen months in oak.
Given that brief maturation in ex-bourbon barrel, it keeps a fresh, distinctly agricole character: sugarcane, white pepper, florals and lemon peel on the nose, a vegetal, spicy and minty palate, and a finish where vanilla, sugarcane and oak come through from the wood. The short ageing softens the spirit and adds a gentle barrel sweetness without burying the grassy, herbal cane core, which makes it an honest and unpretentious pour. A pleasant everyday agricole that bridges blanc and vieux, equally at home sipped neat or stirred into a cocktail looking for green cane and a touch of spice.
