Description
This is the Catrina edition anejo from La Cofradia, a Jalisco house that has made tequila for more than fifty years, its name meaning brotherhood. The liquid rests at least two years in oak, comfortably inside the anejo class minimum of one year, and is twice distilled. As much as the spirit, the draw here is the ornate ceramic bottle, which makes the edition a frequent gift. The label carries no 100% agave claim and it is bottled at 38%.
La Cofradia builds its reputation on a soft, mellow style, and the extended rest in oak smooths the edges further. Expect cooked agave moving into gentle vanilla and wood, with the rounder, sweeter weight of an anejo and little sharpness. The ceramic and porcelain presentation is part of the identity, but underneath sits an easy, accessible aged tequila built for sipping rather than complexity.
