This Ribeiro white is a barrel aged Treixadura from the Territorio Cepa project. Full malolactic fermentation and three months on the lees give it a round, creamy palate of white peach, pear and almond.
Description
La Casa de Las Locas is a Ribeiro white built around Treixadura, the leading white grape of this Galician appellation, made within the Territorio Cepa project run by Bodegas Penafiel. Ribeiro lies inland in Galicia, along the valleys of the Mino and its tributaries, where granite soils and a slightly warmer, more sheltered climate than the coast give Treixadura ripe stone fruit alongside good acidity. The wine goes through a double fermentation, both alcoholic and malolactic, and is then aged for three months on its lees in barrel. Malolactic fermentation softens the wine's sharper malic acid into lactic acid, which is where its creamy, rounded texture comes from, while the months on the lees in barrel add weight and a subtle savoury depth. This is the fuller, creamier side of Treixadura rather than a lean, crisp style. It shows a pale gold colour, with white peach, pear and melon on the nose over almond and a light honeyed note. The palate is round and creamy, with ripe orchard fruit, citrus peel and a gentle, savoury finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees. It suits white fish, poultry and lightly creamy dishes.
