La Bien Plantá is a young, unoaked Garnacha from D.O. Almansa, farmed organically and biodynamically by the Gil family. Light and fresh at 12.5%, it shows vivid cherry, redcurrant and a wild herb lift.
Description
La Bien Plantá is made within the Familia Gil group in D.O. Almansa, Castilla-La Mancha, a winery drawing on more than a century of viticulture. This is a straightforward, honest red built around Garnacha and farmed organically and biodynamically, which means no synthetic treatments and a focus on living, balanced soils. Almansa sits on a high transition zone between the Castilian plateau and the Mediterranean, where altitude and cool nights keep the fruit fresh and lift the wine's herbal, floral aromatics. At a modest 12.5% alcohol the wine is picked for freshness rather than power. It is made young with no oak ageing, so the fruit stays pure and direct, and a short maceration keeps tannin light and the colour bright. The wine is a deep cherry-red, with a clear, expressive nose of fresh red cherry and redcurrant lifted by rose and a wild thyme note. The palate is light and vibrant, with juicy red fruit, gentle tannin and bright acidity through a clean finish. Serve lightly chilled at 13 to 14C. It suits charcuterie, lighter meats and tomato-based dishes.
