Description
Kultu Ginja is a traditional Portuguese cherry liqueur, a ginjinha made by Aromas Da Tarde from selected sour ginja cherries, a local variety known for its intense flavour and fine acidity, and bottled at 18%. It is produced by soaking fully ripe ginja cherries in alcohol to draw a strong fruit extract, which is then refined with sugar and aged for several months to round it off. That maceration of whole sour cherries is the heart of the recipe and an authentic piece of Portuguese drinking culture.
The nose is intensely fruity with sour cherry, cherry jam and a hint of cinnamon, the palate full bodied, smooth and fruity with a sweet and sour balance, subtle spice and a clear cherry presence, finishing fresh, harmonious and persistently fruity with a slightly tart edge. Behind the bar it brings cherry fruit, sweetness and a fine acidity that keeps a drink lively, which suits a Cherry Royale, a fruity sparkling serve or a stirred cherry cocktail. It is classic neat and well chilled, optionally with a pickled ginja cherry, and lifts vanilla ice cream or a chocolate dessert.
