Ktima Tselepos makes this organic Moschofilero from the high plateau of Arcadia in the Peloponnese. The grape’s grey skins give a floral, aromatic white, rested on its lees, with rose, citrus peel and white peach over a crisp, fresh finish.
Description
Yiannis Tselepos has done much to revive Moschofilero, a native Greek grape, at his Ktima Tselepos winery in Arcadia, on the high central plateau of the Peloponnese. The name Blanc de Gris refers to the grape's pink-grey skins, which are pressed gently so the juice runs off pale while keeping the variety's strong floral aromatics. Altitude is central here: the vineyards sit high enough that cool nights and a wide day-to-night temperature swing slow ripening, locking in acidity and preserving the delicate perfume that heat would otherwise burn off. Farming is organic. The wine is rested on its fine lees, which lends a little roundness and texture to balance the natural freshness. It is pale in the glass, with a nose of rose and white flowers lifted by citrus peel, white peach and a touch of ginger spice. The palate is light and crisp, the aromatics carrying through to a clean, mineral finish with a gently grippy edge from the skins. Serve well chilled, around 9 to 10 degrees. It works as an aperitif and suits shellfish, grilled white fish and lightly spiced Mediterranean and Asian dishes.
