Description
Krug is a Champagne house dedicated to richly textured, long aged wines. Its vintage cuvee captures a single year, in this case a season of climatic contrasts, blended from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier. The wine is made by the traditional method and then aged for more than ten years in the house's cellars, an unusually long maturation that builds deep complexity through lees autolysis. It is finished in the brut style, with the low dosage letting the vintage character lead.
The wine is a radiant gold with a fine, long lasting perlage. The nose moves from white fruit and fresh citrus to menthol and herbal nuances, then into pastry and fruit compote. The palate is broad and layered, with subtle smoky and spicy notes, firm structure and a long, precise finish carrying sea salt and grapefruit peel. Serve at 9 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass so the aromas can build. It suits grilled meats, game, fine shellfish such as lobster and langoustine, and mature cheeses.
