Kong Spirit's Rainforest Black Edition is a Guatemalan molasses rum that arrives in a striking gorilla bottle, the kind of presentation that does a lot of the work on the shelf. It sits in the dark, lightly spiced corner of the Spanish style, presented as an easy crowd pleaser rather than a contemplative sipper.

Distilled from molasses in the soft Central American manner, it shows lime, violet and dried apricot on the nose, then turns sweet and custardy on the palate with a cappuccino note on the finish.
