Bright, sweet and unmistakably citrus, led by a tiny mandarin you will not find elsewhere. Sakurajima komikan, the world’s smallest mandarin, grows on a volcanic island in southern Japan and gives this Komasa gin its sunny, fragrant heart. Juniper and coriander keep it honest behind the fruit.

Description
On Sakurajima, a still-active volcano facing Kagoshima across the bay, grows the komikan: a thumb-sized mandarin prized for its concentrated sweetness and rarity. Komasa Jyozo built this gin around it, letting the little citrus take the lead while juniper, coriander and angelica root supply the spine. The volcanic-island provenance is no marketing flourish; it is what makes the fruit, and the gin, hard to replicate.
The nose is full of mandarin, fruity and fragrant with floral and faintly spicy edges. The palate is gentle and mild, the komikan dominant and sweet, supported by juniper, coriander and a soft herbal undertow, closing long, fresh and citrusy with a subtle sweetness. Pour it over a yuzu tonic with a sprig of rosemary for a Japanese twist on the G&T.
