Description
Koehler-Ruprecht is a long-established Pfalz estate at Kallstadt, best known for dry Riesling and red wines made in a traditional, low-technology cellar. This Spatburgunder Rosé Trocken is dry Pinot Noir picked from organically farmed vineyards on the limestone-rich slopes around the village, where the warm Pfalz climate ripens Pinot Noir reliably while the cool nights and free-draining calcareous soils preserve acidity and lift aromatics. The grapes are pressed gently and fermented dry at cool temperatures to protect the delicate fruit and floral character that defines northern Pinot Noir rosé. The result is pale and precise rather than fruit-heavy. It pours a light salmon pink. The nose shows red cherry, redcurrant and a touch of white flowers, with a clean citrus edge. The palate is dry and fresh, the red berry fruit carried by bright acidity and a saline, mineral finish that reflects the limestone soils. There is no oak character to blur the fruit. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
