Description
Peatheart is the heavily peated anCnoc, the smokiest expression from Knockdhu distillery near Knock in Banffshire, this the third batch. At roughly 40ppm it runs well beyond the distillery's standard peated range. Knockdhu, founded in 1894 and named anCnoc since Knockando was too close a name, makes a normally light Highland spirit.
Reopened by Inver House in 1989, the distillery occasionally distils a heavily peated spirit. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks, the bourbon vanilla anchors the strong peat smoke.
Bottled at 46%. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla while guaiacol and phenols drive the smoke. The recorded notes run to honey, a mossy edge, vanilla, dried fruit, a malt extract note and smoke. The heavily peated heart of anCnoc.
