Description
Peatheart is the heavily peated anCnoc, the smokiest expression from Knockdhu distillery near Knock in Banffshire, this the first batch. Where the distillery's peated range sits around 11 to 20ppm, Peatheart runs to roughly 40ppm. Knockdhu, founded in 1894, makes a normally light Highland spirit, with peated runs the exception.
Inver House restarted production in 1989; peated runs are the exception here. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks, the oak's vanilla underpins a heavy peat smoke.
Bottled at 46%. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla while guaiacol and phenols drive a strong smoke. The recorded notes run to citrus, smoke, honey, fresh fruit, a medicinal edge and a dry sandy note. The heavily peated heart of anCnoc.
