Hidden Spirits bottled this 16 year old 2006 Knockdhu from a heavily peated ex-Bourbon cask, number KN0622, an outturn of 298 bottles. Knockdhu, in Banffshire, bottles its own malt as anCnoc, while independents use the distillery name. This cask shows the distillery's peated side.
Since its 1989 revival under Inver House, the distillery has run the odd peated batch. Over sixteen years the ex-Bourbon cask rounds the smoke with vanilla and soft oak.
Cask strength, 54.2%. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla as peat phenols lend the smoke. Expect a coal-gas edge, honey, a nutty note, an oily texture and old wood. A heavily peated independent single cask.
