Description
The Managers' Choice was a Diageo series of single casks chosen by each distillery's manager, and this 1996 Knockando is a single Oloroso cask, number 800790, bottled in 2009. An outturn of 612 bottles. Knockando, founded in 1898 in Speyside, is the heart of the J&B blend and is rarely seen at cask strength.
Today owned by Diageo, the distillery makes a soft, fine Speyside spirit. Matured in a single Oloroso cask, the sherry wood deepened the malt to full strength.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 58.5%. The Oloroso gives dried fruit, melanoidins reading as fig and raisin, with tannins adding a walnut dryness. The recorded notes run to chocolate, dried fruit, a leathery note, old wood, a sherried character and vanilla. A rare full-strength single-cask Knockando.
