Knockando Extra Old – Square Decanter 21 Years Old 1977

This Extra Old was distilled in 1977 and bottled in 1998 at twenty-one years old, in the square decanter, a year younger than its 1999 sibling from the same vintage. Knockando, the 1898 Speyside distillery at the heart of the J&B blend, dates each bottling by vintage.

Now owned by Diageo, the distillery makes a light, fine Speyside spirit. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks across twenty-one years, the wood deepened the malt.

Bottled at 43%. Vanillin from the ex-Bourbon reads as vanilla, oak lactones as coconut, maltol as toffee. The recorded notes run to cooked fruit, honey and an oily texture. An older 1977 vintage in the square decanter.
