An unaged Haitian clairin at 55%, intensely herbal and floral with fresh sugarcane, a vegetal, grassy palate and a touch of olive, finishing herbal and lightly sweet, raw and terroir-driven cane juice.
Description
Kleren Nasyonal bottles this Traditionnel 22 as a Haitian clairin, the village cane juice rum made from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice with the wild, spontaneous fermentation that defines the category. Unaged and bottled at 55%, it is agricole in spirit but carries Haiti's distinctive, terroir-led intensity.
Pot distilled in the traditional manner, it noses on florals, vegetal notes, sugarcane and a faintly lactic yoghurt edge, with a herbal, vegetal and spicy palate built on sugarcane, and a finish that stays herbal and vegetal with a touch of sweetness and a hint of olive. The grassy, floral character is front and centre, raw and direct, with little of the fruit you would find in a softer rum. The high proof underlines its rustic power. A genuine, unvarnished clairin for drinkers who want cane juice in its most elemental, herbaceous and saline form, neat or in a punchy island serve.
