An unaged Haitian clairin bottled at a full 57.5%, leaning more alcoholic and vegetal than overtly fruity, with earthy, floral, herbal cane and a sharp green snap that owes nothing to oak.
Description
Kleren Nasyonal Petit bijoux de Beauvoir is a Haitian clairin, the village style of pure cane juice rum that sits in the agricole family but cannot use the name. Distilled on a pot still from fresh sugarcane juice and bottled unaged at 57.5%, it follows the spontaneous, wild fermentation tradition of small Haitian operations rather than the polished house style of Martinique.
The character is raw and savoury rather than tropical and sweet. Expect earthy, herbal and floral cane up front, a vegetal, slightly chemical core and a sharp finish that runs toward the grassy and mineral end, with the high proof very much on show. This is unsweetened terroir spirit for drinkers who want the unfiltered face of Haitian cane, neat in a small pour or stirred into a punch rather than sipped like an aged sipper.
