Description
Balcomie is Kingsbarns' sherry-led expression, here a Cask Strength edition matured in American oak and Oloroso, named for a links and castle near the distillery. An outturn of 3,600 bottles. Founded in 2014 by the Wemyss family, Kingsbarns is a Lowland distillery in Fife's East Neuk.
Built in a restored farm steading near St Andrews, the distillery runs long-necked stills for a light, fruity, unpeated spirit. Matured in American oak and Oloroso casks, the sherry wood pulls the young malt towards dried fruit.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 59.9%. The American oak gives vanilla, while the Oloroso adds dried fruit, melanoidins reading as fig and raisin. The recorded note is a green, leafy lift over the sherried fruit. The sherried Kingsbarns at full power.
