Description
Kinclaith is among the rarest names in Scotch, a Lowland malt built in 1957 inside the Strathclyde grain complex in the Gorbals, Glasgow, and dismantled in 1975. This 20 year old was bottled by Cadenhead's around 1985 in their distinctive dumpy bottle, one of the earliest independent releases of a distillery that was never officially bottled.
Kinclaith was Glasgow's last malt distillery, a single pair of pot stills among the grain stills, its spirit made almost entirely for Long John blends. Matured in Oloroso sherry, the wood pulls this scarce old malt towards dried fruit.
Bottled at 46%. The Oloroso gives dried fruit, melanoidins reading as fig and raisin, with a nutty, vegetal edge from this industrial-era Lowland spirit. A piece of Glasgow whisky history from a distillery long gone.
