Description
Coull Point is a Kilchoman expression named for a headland on the Islay coast, matured in ex-Bourbon and Oloroso casks. It carries the farm distillery's young, peated, maritime character. Founded by Anthony Wills in 2005 at Rockside Farm, Kilchoman is the only farm distillery on Islay.
The distillery malts barley on site and bottles on the farm, a barley to bottle approach rare in Scotch. Matured in ex-Bourbon and Oloroso casks, the bourbon wood gives the base and the sherry a darker layer.
Bottled at 46%, non-chill-filtered and natural in colour. Peat phenols carry the smoke, the ex-Bourbon gives vanilla, the Oloroso a touch of dried fruit. The recorded notes run to a coal-gas mineral edge, a kippered maritime note, leather, a medicinal edge, a mossy earthiness and fresh oak. A coastal, smoky Kilchoman.
