Whisky.de, the German retailer, bottled this 9 year old 2015 Kilchoman from an ex-Bourbon and brandy cask, number 15/1029. An outturn of 228 bottles for Germany. Kilchoman, founded by Anthony Wills in 2005, was the first new distillery on Islay in over 124 years.
The distillery malts on site and bottles on the farm, keeping the whole process in one place. Matured in ex-Bourbon and brandy wood, the brandy cask adds a grape-led sweetness.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 54.6%. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla, the brandy a grape sweetness, while peat phenols carry the smoke. The recorded note is a cooked vegetable edge. A brandy-influenced single cask for Germany.
