Description
Johann Kattus, founded in 1857, is the oldest family run sparkling wine house in Vienna. This cuvee blends Welschriesling from vineyards around Poysdorf with hand picked Riesling from the Nussberg terraces in the city. It is made in the traditional style and given a long maturation of up to four years in the historic cellars, so lees ageing builds depth, a fine bead and gentle bready complexity. It is finished dry in the brut style, keeping the fruit and freshness in balance.
The wine shows a fine, persistent perlage. The nose is fruity and harmonious, with green apple, lemon and white peach over white flowers, moving into toasted bread and a hazelnut note from the long ageing. The palate is dry and elegant, with fresh acidity, a fine mousse and a long finish. Serve well chilled at 5 to 7 degrees in a white wine glass. It is a fine aperitif and pairs well with light starters, white fish and poultry dishes, as well as harder cheeses.
